ESP/EAP SIG The ESP/EAP Special Interest Group was created in 2000 by a small number of TESOL Greece members with a marked interest in Higher Education issues. It quickly expanded to involve those who teach in a more extended variety of ‘specific situations’. · English for Academic Purposes (EAP) – this involves teaching English for a study purpose in universities (state or private), as well as post-secondary (IEK, IB, GCE/GCSE, Foundation Courses etc) or even secondary (e.g. TEE, 3rd class of Lyceum) education institutions in Greece; also known as ‘English for Science and Technology’(EST) or ‘English for Educational Purposes’ (EEP); includes areas of more specific interest such as English Resources for Computer Science (ERCS) and English for Scientific Research (ESR). · English for Occupational Purposes (EOP)– a wider area which incorporates (a) English for Professional Purposes (EPP), such as Business English or English for Medical Purposes, and (b) English for Vocational Purposes (EVP) (e.g. doctors, nurses, airline pilots, hotel staff etc.), as well as those who teach English for other specific purposes. What is our aim? To encourage the professional development and the exchange of ideas among EAP and ESP practitioners throughout Greece and abroad to inform fellow practitioners about conferences in Greece and abroad; to promote and enhance a team spirit; to encourage and promote action research; to coordinate with other TESOL Greece SIGs and international ESP/EAP associations in organising events. What benefits do we offer? To keep EAP/ESP practitioners in touch with the latest news and research in their field of expertise, in Greece and abroad. The Co-ordinator also sends out occasional messages to update members. TESOL Greece Annual Convention: The ESP/EAPSIG organises its own strand of presentations, workshops and discussions at the annual TESOL Greece Convention. ESP/EAP SIG Symposia Other Events include half-day, one-day or longer ESP symposia and workshops, joint events with other SIGs or associations and participation in international conferences. Contact:
